Cryptocurrency prices have soared as cryptocurrency ETFs, or exchange-traded funds, are expected to be admitted to U.S. exchanges. What exactly are ETFs, who requests these permissions and what are the prospects, explains Polina Brottier, Binance representative in Estonia.

Cryptocurrency ETFs (exchange traded fund) are exchange-traded funds that track the price of cryptocurrency. These funds allow investors to access crypto-assets without having to buy, sell and deposit them directly. There are two types of cryptocurrency ETFs: stain ETF-id me future ETF ID.

Futures ETFs, or funds made up of futures, have been trading on US stock exchanges since 2021. This means that the fund manager does not own the cryptocurrency itself, but trades the rights (futures) to buy or sell the cryptocurrency at a fixed price in the future.
