British police are investigating a sexual cyberattack

Police are investigating the first case of rape committed in the cyber world, in which an underage girl was the victim of a sexual attack, the Times reports. The attack occurred in a computer game in which the girl moved with an avatar created by herself, that is, a so-called virtual body, which is the virtual “I” of a real person. The player was wearing virtual glasses when he was attacked by a group of men, or a group of avatars, and raped in the virtual reality, or metaverse.

According to British police, the girl has no physical injuries, but the emotional trauma resulting from the experience may be more lasting than what she experienced in reality. At the same time, there is no necessary legislation that holds accountable people who attack their victim through virtual glasses in an artificial environment. In local legislation, rape is described as physically touching another person without permission.
