Can’t push snow anymore? Read what to do when you run out of snow shovels

Every year the winter snow deluge presents families, condominiums and businesses with the challenge of how to remove falling snow from streets, yards and parking lots as quickly and efficiently as possible. Instead of shovels, increasingly powerful helpers are grabbed. Experts explain when a snow blower or ATV could be useful.

“The use of snow blowers in ordinary households is a growing trend, as smaller and cheaper models have appeared on the market, which are very suitable for private homes. They are useful wherever a deep, snow-free surface is needed, e.g. sidewalks, parking lots, terraces,” said Kristina Kovalkova, marketing manager at Kesko Senukai Estonia.

He says snow blowers also definitely save energy and time spent shoveling snow by hand.

According to Kovalkova, smaller electric or battery-operated machines, up to 30 cm wide, are suitable for smaller private homes and apartment buildings with only a driveway or terrace. “If you have to clean a parking lot or a longer driveway, you should consider a machine with a width of at least 50 cm. They all do their job, the question is rather that in a hurry,” Kovalkova said.

He believes anyone can handle a snowblower, but that could reduce the need for shoveling, especially for older people. “For them, a battery-powered or electric machine is absolutely within everyone’s reach and significantly facilitates the work of snow removal,” adds Kovalkova. Prices for snow blowers start from 200 euros.

ATVs are mainly purchased during the winter season

“ATV has become a much-needed helper in Estonian consumer households. Estonian homeowners and business managers see ATVs with snowblowers as the first effective helper in snow removal,” said Hanno Velt, the founder of Velt Motocenter, which sells motorcycle equipment. He added that, according to the Transport Agency’s register, the busiest periods for purchasing ATVs are November, December and January.
