Construction of house walls

For the construction of load-bearing walls, blocks with a width of 200 mm or more are used.

Depending on the architectural and construction solution of the building, the designer must calculate which thickness and resistance of the block are suitable: if e.g. Fibo 3/250 or better Fibo 5/250. Unfortunately, in practice, there are often cases when a person unfamiliar with construction listens to recommendations and advice from acquaintances on how to build and what solutions to use. Such an approach must be avoided in any case, because even in buildings of similar appearance and size, very different loads can weigh on the structures and, consequently, the need to constructively resolve them in different ways. Therefore: the thickness and resistance of the block to be used for installing the walls must be specified in the project.

Non-load-bearing partition walls are generally made of blocks 100 and 150 mm thick.

When choosing the block, the height of the wall, the dimensions of the openings, the number and arrangement in the wall, the acoustic and fire resistance requirements will be decisive. The thicker and/or stronger the block is used, the better the sound insulation and fire resistance, and the load-bearing capacity of the wall increases. The choice of block thickness can be based on the “rule of thumb”: the quotient between height and wall thickness must be equal to or less than 27: H/b≤27.

The next important nuance is that the walls must be strengthened during laying. Reinforcement helps join the block-laid wall into a single flat unit and reduces the risk of cracks. Armor also has its own rules:

  • To reinforce the walls of the Fibo block it is necessary to use special bi-reinforcements;
  • For load-bearing walls (offered from 200 mm), reinforcement must be installed at least every fifth joint. Two reinforcements are installed in one joint.
  • The non-load-bearing walls (100 and 150 mm thick) are reinforced at least every four rows of blocks. A reinforcement is installed in a joint.
