The recent Aquaman And The Lost Kingdom, the sequel to the original Aquaman, sees the return of Amber Heard as Mera, who plays Aquaman’s lover. In the new film, however, Heard’s role is significantly reduced: she only has 11 lines of text in the film. At least two scenes that Heard participated in are said to have been cut from the film, and in total she only spends 15-20 minutes on screen. Most of the actress’s screen time is spent sitting or standing awkwardly behind Aquaman, appearing to constantly bite his tongue. Heard will not participate in any public promotion of the film and she has also decided to skip the Los Angeles premiere at the end of December.
Social media, however, doesn’t seem to be too upset that Heard was cut from her role. Yesterday, on her Instagram account, she published some photos taken on set. “After all this time, ‘Aquaman 2’ has made waves,” she wrote alongside the post, referring to the film’s connection to water. “Thank you to all my fans for the overwhelming support and love for Mera’s return in ‘Aquaman,’” she added.
