Defending champion Senegal has secured a place in the Football Nations Cup

Defending champion Senegal defeated Cameroon 3:1 at the African Nations Cartoon Tournament on Friday to secure a place in the top 16.

In the Group C match, Marseille winger Ismaila Sarr gave Senegal the lead in the 16th minute, Habib Diallo’s goal in the 71st minute made it two goals for the defending champions. Nantes centre-back Jean-Charles Castelletto’s goal in the 83rd minute gave Cameroon another chance, but former Liverpool and Bayern Munich striker Sadio Mané completed the final score in the fifth minute of extra time.

Having scored three goals in both matches thus far, Senegal secured passage from Group C, the Green Islands secured a place in the top 16 on Friday, beating Mozambique 3:0 in Group B. last round, the Greenland Islands will meet Egypt, who lead by two points, while Ghana and Mozambique, who have collected one point, will face each other.

This year’s African Championship will take place in Ivory Coast, the winner will be announced on February 11 in Abidjan. The hosts are not in an easy position in Group A, having lost to Nigeria after beating Guinea-Bissau. Equatorial Guinea and Nigeria have four points after two rounds, with Ivory Coast facing Equatorial Guinea in the decider.
