Eik: I’m afraid my vocabulary will deteriorate | People

The musician and poet Eik admitted in the “Ringvaate” that he is afraid of becoming lazy and deteriorating his vocabulary. A thesaurus and an explanatory dictionary of the Estonian language are what often help me, he said.

23-year-old Eik Erik Sikk, who conquers stages under the stage name Eik, has released six studio albums to date, and his refined songwriting is praised by artists and fans alike. The young man recorded the last three albums mostly in the closet at home. “Estonian culture is created here, in the wardrobe,” he laughed.

Sikk wrote his first poems when he was about six years old. The musician explained that rhymes can arise anywhere. “I have a few small ones on my phone Notes“I, where there are three lines, a rhyme or a good idea that you could write a song about,” he said.

Although rhymes may come to you even at a party or on the bus, the young man needs privacy to write them.

“I have the feeling that if, for example, I travel by public transport and start writing on the phone, someone will see the first most boring idea from the outside and think that this is Eik, he is writing these words, completely out of his head I’m still afraid of it,” he admitted.

According to the musician, the most difficult thing is to write simple words. “The thesaurus and the explanatory dictionary of the Estonian language are what often help me,” he admitted on the Internet that he doesn’t read many books. “I’m a little afraid that sooner or later I will become lazy and that my vocabulary will deteriorate, I will have to start reading soon,” he laughed.

The growing challenges don’t allow Siku to get lazy either. In February last year he performed at the concert for the anniversary of the Republic, in the autumn he performed at the awards of the best Estonian companies, where he built his text around the speeches of Lennart Meri. According to the musician, these types of tasks help when inspiration tends to fade.

“I’ve also had creative crises. I sit and think of these beautiful words that I could write everything, but I don’t write anything and then they disappear. But I do it with myself, it’s my laziness,” he said and added that idling it will help him express himself better later. “I feel like if you hold back and are lazy in the meantime, when you actually start writing, all these ideas will come out in a more thoughtful way.”
