After winning an Emmy yesterday for his concert film “Farewell From Dodger Stadium”, Elton John became the nineteenth person in history to win every major American art award: Emmy, Grammy, Oscar and Tony (EGOT).
Elton John won the Emmy for best live performance on January 15 for the Disney+ concert film Elton John Live: Farewell From Dodger Stadium, filmed as part of John’s Farewell Yellow Brick Road tour. Elton John was unable to attend the awards ceremony due to a knee injury, but he spoke his words through his publicist.
“I am beyond thrilled to join an incredibly talented group of EGOT winners. This journey to this point has been filled with passion, dedication and the unwavering support of my fans around the world. Tonight is a testament to the power of “Art and joy fills our lives. Thank you. “I am extremely grateful to everyone who has supported me throughout my career,” said John in his statement of thanks.
Elton John has won 6 Grammys, the first of which he won in 1987 for the song “That’s What Friends Are For”. In 1994 he won the Oscar for the song “Can You Feel the Love Tonight” from The Lion King. He won the Tony for best original score in 2000 for the music he wrote for the musical “Aida.”
Elton John is the third pop artist to join the group EGOT. John Legend and Jennifer Hudson achieved the same feat before him.
