ERR in Tel Aviv: according to the Israelis the war will drag on a foreign country

The people of Israel are coming to terms with the fact that there will be no quick solution to the war between Hamas and Israel and that the war will likely drag on and even expand. The consequences of the Hamas terrorist attack are still clearly on the minds of Israelis and there is no sign of war fatigue.

Israel’s war against Hamas lasted almost three months. The first scare has been replaced by the realization that there will be no quick and easy end to all of this.

Furthermore, there are still around a hundred hostages in Gaza. In front of the art museum in Tel Aviv, the table is set for those still in Gaza, and the wine on the table is not opened.

Avel comes from a kibbutz called Nahal Oz, right next to the Gaza Strip. Two men from that kibbutz are still held hostage.

“And they are still there. Today we have already been taken hostage for 90 days and we still don’t see the light at the end of the tunnel. I was born in Nahal Oz, when I was a child, we went to the Gaza market on weekends to eat hummus, we had good relationships with the people. But things have changed,” Avel said.

In the Gaza Strip, according to Hamas authorities, more than 20,000 Palestinians have been killed so far.

“It’s not our problem. It’s their problem. They need to kick Hamas out of Gaza,” commented Shmuel, an Israeli resident.

Would a two-state solution be realistic?

“We hope that they (the Palestinians) want a two-state solution. Right now they only want a one-state solution. They say ‘from the river to the sea’. They only mean one area,” Shmuel said.

According to polls, almost 90 percent of society supports the fight against Hamas and the army in Israel.

“And this despite the fact that the Israel Defense Forces failed on October 7. What they (Hamas) should do, they should actually come out today. They should have done it weeks ago, but they should come out of their tunnels, out of their holes” Today. With white flags and saying, okay, it helps and it’s the only way to ensure safety for civilians there,” said Meir Elran, a senior researcher at the Israel Defense Research Institute.

One of Hamas’ leaders was killed in Beirut on Tuesday, and one of Hezbollah’s leaders was killed in an Israeli attack on Thursday. For three months, Iran had time and reason to significantly intervene in the war, but it did not.

“Iran understands the consequences. Iran has its own problems. Iran is a very big country, but internally it is quite weak, the economy is in depression,” Elran explained.

Even though Gaza appears to be level, on January 1 Tel Aviv was still attacked with rockets from Gaza.
