European digital associations are calling for artificial intelligence not to be overly regulated

DigitalEurope has published a call to which 32 digital associations have participated. He explains that only 8% of European companies currently use artificial intelligence, which is still a long way from the European Commission’s target. In fact, it is expected that by 2030, 75% of companies will be able to use artificial intelligence.

The call highlights that only 3% of the world’s AI unicorns come from the European Union, but the region’s competitiveness and financial stability depend on companies’ ability to apply AI in green technology, healthcare, manufacturing or ‘power.

It is recommended that future EU AI law, currently under final negotiation between legislators and member states, gives the AI industry a chance in Europe, instead of killing it in a plethora of restrictions and regulations.

The signatory organizations supported a joint proposal to create AI rules with certain transparency standards.

DigitalEurope recommends that AI laws should not necessarily regulate every new technology and advocates an approach that focuses only on particularly high-risk areas of use.

The letter expressed concern that the new law could overlap with regulations in other sectors, such as healthcare, due to its very broad scope.

The Estonian IT and Telecommunications Union also signed the joint statement.

Here is the full text of the public speech.
