Facebook scammers just got smarter. “I live in Simuna village. Do you mind if I order via courier?”

At the end of last year Delfi Ärileht wrote that, in addition to different types of scams, in the pre-Christmas period, many scams were also organized on the Facebook Marketplace, where people often expressed a desire to buy an item published there and pay for it via an Omniva courier or DPD. However, none of the companies operating in the parcel sector in Estonia offer such an opportunity. However, anyone who clicked on the link in the email sent by the scammer and entered their bank details would have to accept the loss of hundreds or thousands of euros.

Although in the meantime, according to the assessment of the writer and the active user of the market, as well as the scams registered with the police and the border guard, it seemed that the cyber criminals operating on Facebook had also gone on Christmas vacation, but now they are back and are even more active and aggressive. Not only that, they improved both their knowledge of the Estonian language and their knowledge of Estonian villages. We provide examples of the conversations we had with them this Friday and the ways in which they try to extort money from Estonians.
