Finland may boycott Eurovision due to Israel’s participation – TV3

Finnish song competition UMK, which selects participants in the Eurovision Song Contest, hinted in an Instagram story that Finland may not participate in this year’s Eurovision due to the Gaza war.

“The situation in the Middle East is alarming and serious, and it worries us too. The Finnish pre-contest has become an important event, which will be held regardless of Finland’s participation in Eurovision. As for Eurovision, the management of the National Finnish Broadcasting Company is receiving updates on the situation and is discussing it with the European Broadcasting Union and other Nordic countries,” they wrote.

In the parallel competition held in Norway on 6 December it was found that no position has yet been taken regarding Israel’s participation.

Furthermore, an Icelandic singer-songwriter recently wrote to the national broadcaster asking them to withdraw from the singing competition if Israel participated this year.
