Former Flora coach Jürgen Henn: The club was cleaned up and no one in the team had a good feeling

Jürgen Hennil took a break after a difficult season and recently went on vacation to Tenerife, which has also become a vacation spot for the entire Estonian football family. However, looking back on this turbulent end to the season, Henn already had a feeling that this year would be different. “I told our goalkeeping coach that this ending will be a bit strange. I couldn’t imagine that so many things could somehow come together,” he said.

According to Henn, leaving the position of head coach was a completely personal decision and, since there was more stress in the summer than before, it seemed like the right time had come. “I know how things work in football and how much it requires. I was prepared that at some point I would run out of energy. We managed to build the process in such a way that it lasted longer than I expected.”

However, the reason also lies in the differences of opinion between the management and Henn. “The team managers have their vision, I have my wishes, but I realized that I don’t have much say,” he said. Furthermore, he highlighted the end of the season, which didn’t exactly create a good feeling for both him and the team. “The end went over the fence. Now there’s a big cleanup and nobody on the team had a good feeling.”

As coach of the FC Flora football club, Henn has come very far and there is reason to be proud. Henn is in fact the only coach who managed to take the club to the Euroseries. “Of course, it was a different feeling, the whole journey was painful in a way, but it steeled us and prepared us for what awaited us in the subgroup and how we had to play. The painful losses made us strong,” he said. said.

He has now joined the Estonian national team, where he will soon start as assistant coach. According to Henn, the Estonian national team feels united and his mission is to bring good energy to the pitch, which would change the whole picture of the game. “A lot of things start from the emotional level. Something is stuck there and needs to be moved. Since I’m not in it yet, it’s hard to say,” he admitted.

Even from a financial point of view, the position of assistant coach of the national team is a greater motivation for Henn than the position of head coach of FC Flora. However, Henn prefers not to say whether there is less pressure as an assistant coach. “Pressure can be deceiving, obviously everyone in the club looks up to the manager, but the load definitely depends on how much responsibility you want to take on as assistant manager. I’m more of a person who feels that responsibility.”

There was also talk of the future collaboration with Joel Lindpere and Henn said that the job roles are still being defined. “The training camp in January is exactly what is needed for this purpose, because in the end not everything goes right on the pitch, just like it happens to some people.”

While Henn has a fair amount of coaching baggage to carry out of his own pocket, he still occasionally seeks advice from more experienced coaches. Arno Pijpers is definitely one of Henn’s greatest street signs. “The first thing he taught me is how to make the team work so as not to confuse them and if something goes wrong, take a step back. Don’t rap, don’t be an asshole, trust the musicians. There has to be a solid system that you trust “, Henn is convinced.

Henn’s 10-year goal is to make a career abroad. “You start small, as an assistant coach, then you take the same steps abroad as you did at home, and you’re ready to come back as a better coach. Leaving would be useful,” he explained.
