Four new film projects have been selected in the portrait competition of the Estonian National Broadcasting Company, the Estonian Film Institute and the Estonian Cultural Foundation, documenting people who have left an influential mark on the Estonian cultural scene and social space.

17 film projects were submitted to the portrait film competition announced in November, which was evaluated by the jury consisting of Marianna Kaat (independent jury member), Marko Raat (Estonian Cultural Capital), Viola Salu (Estonian Film Institute) and Mart Luik (Estonian National Broadcasting).

Among the projects submitted to the competition, the jury selected four concept designs, which are expected to be completed within a year and a half. At the center of the new portrait films are Epp Maria Kokamägi, Marju Lauristin, Raine Karp and Raun Juurikas.

Works selected from the portrait film competition
1. “The Four Rooms of the World” (Marju Lauristin): director Kaupo Kruusiauk, producer Kaie-Ene Rääk, producer F-Seitse OÜ.
2. “Epp Maria. Painting life” (Epp Maria Kokamägi): director Anu Aun, producer Maie Rosmann, producer Ilmatar Film OÜ.
3. “Raine Karp”: director Keiti Väliste, producer Johanna Maria Paulson, producer Stellar Film OÜ.
4. “Believe in the near future. Raun Juurikas”: director Heli Reimann, producer Erik Norkroos, producer Rühm Pluss Null OÜ.

The portrait film competition is organized and financed by the Estonian National Broadcasting Company, the Estonian Film Institute and the Estonian Culture Capital. This year 42,000 euros will be allocated for the production of a film.

The portrait films are first shown on the cinema screen and then reach viewers via the ERR and Jupiter TV channels. Aljona Suržikova’s portrait of Kaarel Kurismaa has just premiered among the films selected in the previous stages of the competition. Both this and director Kullar Viimse’s portrayal of Seaküla Simson will soon be on ETV’s screen.

The first films with portraits can be seen on the Jupiter page
