The first Advent was celebrated on Saturday evening in the castle square of Haapsalu.

The entire old town of Haapsalu was filled with candles and a path led from the Swedish market circle to the Lossiplats with barrels of fire.

However, at 6pm, the green Haapsalu city bus arrived at Lossiplats, bringing the Läänemaa Santas. The mayor of Haapsalu, Urmas Sukles, gave them the key to Santa Claus’ house. Santa Claus promised to open it on Sunday at 11.00.

Santa Claus also brought a gift for Sukles. Last year the first Advent was celebrated on the occasion of Sukles’ birthday, this year not. “I don’t know if he started celebrating his birthday at any other time,” Santa said as he handed over the gift.

Then Bishop Tiit Salumäe distributed an Advent fire to everyone who wanted it. At the same time, the Santa Clauses offered candy to everyone, took a photo with those they expressed and asked about Christmas greetings.

Soloists from the Laulumarjad music studio performed during the switching on of the Christmas lights.
