GALLERY AND VIDEO. Powerful! 100-ton Alaskan Tree Frog and Põrnikas snow sculptures unveiled at Jundaka Stadium

The almost 5 meter high snow sculpture of the Alaskan tree frog and the slightly smaller Põrnikas created by students of the Faculty of Liberal Arts of the Estonian Academy of Arts (EAA) were unveiled at the Kadaka Stadium in Mustamäe.

The snow sculpture created under the guidance of Kail Timuski, a 2nd year EKA student, is inspired by the miracle of nature – the Alaskan tree frog. This little animal freezes in winter, its heart stops, but when spring comes, the frog comes back to life.

Nearly 100 tons of snow, collected from the snow that fell on Kadaka Stadium, was used to build the impressive ice figures.

At the opening of the winter art exhibition, EKA vice-rector for education Anne Pikkov said that the wonderful and lovely sculptures that appeared in the stadium are a good example of how students’ creativity can flourish in an urban space: ” It’s not just cute sculptures, we’re looking at a piece of poetry here. And there’s a lot of beauty in that!”

According to Mustamäe district elder Aivar Riisalu, the district has a very good and inspiring cooperation with EKA: “I hope that these lovely sculptures here are not the last. There is definitely a reason to take a closer look to these works of art. Kandaka Stadium is a great environment in which to improve your health and, as you can see, enjoy good art.”
