Gallery: Riigikogu president received petition to ban keeping chickens in cages | Estonia

The animal protection organization Nähatmatut Loomad submitted a petition with 21,421 signatures to the Riigikogu to ban caged chickens by law.

On Thursday morning, the organization held a visual performance in front of the Riigikogu for the first time, after which they handed over the petition to the president of the Riigikogu, Lauri Hussar.

“This is a strong public statement that draws attention to the urgent need to improve the welfare of farm animals. Today’s society is very ready for change in this area,” said Kristina Mering, founder and CEO by Invisible Animals.

The Riigikogu animal protection support group, which includes Anastassia Kovalenko-Kõlvart, Helmen Kütt, Tanel Kiik, Andrei Korobeinik, Ester Karuse, Vadim Belobrovtsev, Mario Kadastik, Zuzu Izmailova and Tiit Maran, supports the chicken ban caged in Estonia.

“Animals and birds experience pain, stress and other emotions in the same way as humans, and if a human causes this pain and suffering, humans must also be held responsible,” said Anastassia Kovalenko-Kõlvart, president of the animal protection support group.
