GALLERY. Tallinn’s newest community sauna has opened by the sea near the town hall

The Logi community sauna was inaugurated today at the town hall by the sea, completed with the support of the “Let’s create together” support from Tallinn, the green capital of Europe.

Tallinn’s newest Logi community sauna is a public wood-fired sauna by the sea built on a citizens’ initiative. Tallinn supported its construction with the contribution of the green capital “Loome koos”. “I am happy that such diverse projects were completed with the support of the Green Capital. For a long time, Tallinn will show many innovations that brought greenery into urban space and underlined the importance of richness of life and a sustainable way of thinking , be it the community sauna itself, insect hotels or green life-rich facilities,” said Deputy Mayor Vladimir Svet.

“The most important thing is that these projects were implemented by our citizens, that is, the city has exactly the face that people want to see,” he added.

The Logi community sauna is located on the seashore in the immediate vicinity of the town hall (in Logi 13) and there are also opportunities for winter bathing and other recreational activities in the summer. The sauna is open from Friday to Sunday. Operating directly with the support of local community members and volunteers, the sauna is highly socially inclusive. The sauna is also sustainable: it is heated by a wood stove and there is no electricity connection.

“The wooden sauna is an attempt to create a public space by the sea in Tallinn that supports both being alone and together, resting and working. It offers an alternative to digital life, highlights urban nature and gives the opportunity to spend more time by the sea”, described the founders of the Logi sauna from the NGO Kuum ja Külm.

In the same area, Tallinn recently organized the area between the Cruise Terminal and Kalaranna as part of the “Green Trail” project, creating recreation and activity areas: new stairs in the beach area, several seating areas, ping pong tables, a petanque area, a stage for outdoor events and landscaped dunes. All activities in the area represent an intermediate step towards opening the city to the sea, creating an uninterrupted journey to the beach and realizing the city’s maritime vision.

Tallinn aims to involve the widest possible range of citizens of Tallinn and Estonia in the year of the European Green Capital, and supporting the non-profit activities “Let’s create together” was a good way to support the sustainable ideas of the people of Tallinn. In total, Tallinn “Loome koos” supported 48 projects for 1.2 million euros to support ideas that enrich the living environment and enhance greenery.
