The opening ceremony of the European Capital of Culture in Tartu on January 26 will be preceded and followed by lively celebrations in southern Estonia. To welcome the year of the capital of culture, the eight-member band Angus took to the stage in Võru, together with Võru-born Uku Suviste. DJ iDJa from Southern Saami warmed up the audience with techno and ambient beats.

The annual program of the Capital of Culture begins with the opening celebrations, which tells the story of the creative idea of ​​the Arts of Survival: these are the knowledge, skills and values ​​that will help us live better in the future.

“The program includes more than a thousand events throughout the year, among which everyone will surely find something they like,” said Tartu 2024 leader Kuldar Leis. The Võrumaa program can be found on the Tartu 2024 website.

In January Valga and Viljandi also opened the year of the capital of culture. On January 27th they will arrive in Põlva, where the traditional musician Meelika Hainsoo will perform.

The opening ceremony of the European Capital of Culture Tartu 2024 “Everything is one!” will start on January 26th at 7pm in the center of Tartu. Trad.Attack!, Sander Mölder, Lonitseera and many other well-known Estonian artists, actors and dancers will perform. See more: tartu2024.ee/avamine.
