The German Interior Ministry announced on Friday that Berlin will extend border controls with Poland, the Czech Republic and Switzerland until mid-March 2024. The aim of the measures is to limit the influx of migrants into the country.

Germany introduced border control at the end of September, border control is organized with mobile checkpoints near the border. This is how Germany wants to combat the activities of human traffickers. Many migrants also arrive in the country via the German-Polish and German-Czech borders.

German Interior Minister Nancy Faeser noted that since the introduction of border controls, authorities have arrested nearly 340 human traffickers. According to Faeser, thanks to border control, Berlin has managed to reduce the flow of migrants by almost 60%, Politico reports.
