Goidina became the Estonian champion in the free program, Selevko won in the men’s figure skating

At the Estonian figure skating championships, the Estonian champions revealed themselves on Sunday, when Elina Goidina, who occupied fifth place after the short program, took first place with the free program. Mihhail Selevko won for the third time among men.

Selevko, who placed first after the short program, earned 156.77 points in the free program on Sunday and earned first place overall with 237.11 points. Selevko, who managed to win four times, became Estonian champion for the first time in 2019, also won first place last year.

Since the fresh Estonian champion’s racing bag got stuck in the open air last week, he had to immediately bring his new skates with him. “In any case I am satisfied. I didn’t have much time to prepare, because I have new shoes and new skates,” said Mihhail Selevko.

On Sunday, Aleksandr Selevko performed an excellent free routine (167.18 points) and took second place with 235.99 points, just 1.12 points behind his brother. Third place went to Arlet Levandi, who collected 219.53 points. Yegor Martsenko took fourth place with 156.92 points.

Both Selevkos will also represent Estonia at the European Championships in Kaunas in January. “The form is good, everything went well now. We will try two quadruples in the free program and see what the result will be,” said Aleksandr Selevko.

Among the women, on Sunday, 13-year-old Elina Goidina performed an excellent free program, obtaining 112.52 points. Goidina, who came fifth in the short program, collected a total of 160.77 points and thus earned the Estonian championship.

“Of course, it’s surprising for me. I didn’t expect to win at all. I decided that I would perform at the Estonian championships only on Wednesday and I didn’t think that I would become the Estonian champion,” Goidina told ERR. “We are very happy that almost everything was successful in the free program.”

Goidina, who performed six triple jumps in the free skate, broke her right leg while training in Turkey in August and could only begin to regain her jumping form in November. “I also trained a lot with the cast. I went on the ice with the cast and skated on one leg,” said Goidina, who trains in Turkey and Estonia. “Maybe because I’m strong, I was able to recover quickly.”

Nataly Langerbaur, who collected 157.26 points, was second, and Kristina Lisovskaja, who occupied first place after the short program, was in the top three and collected a total of 156.46 points. Niina Petrõkina, who recently broke her fibula, was unable to defend her championship and will also miss the EC.

Langerbaur told the ERR that he can be satisfied with the result. “This is already my ninth start this season. I’ve been competing a lot and it’s the end of the year and I’m a little tired,” he said.

The Estonian ice dancing couple Solene Mazingue – Marko Jevgeni Gaidajenko also took to the field on Sunday, scoring 104.10 points in the free dance. They scored a total of 170.43 points.
