GUIDE ⟩ This year there is no hope for the peace of Christmas, but we still need to hope

We must continue to believe that this day will also come in the Ukrainian War of Independence: a victory parade will be held in Kiev and General Zaluzhnyi will announce that the enemy has been driven from the borders of Ukraine. That day will come.

The fight for Ukrainian freedom is close to us and it is not difficult to understand why. At the same time, Riho Uhgi points out that there are currently seven major, twenty-three medium and twelve minor armed conflicts underway in the world. We know something about the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict and we have lively debates about the ongoing war in Gaza. There is no hope even for Christmas peace in this war, because neither of the two warring sides celebrates Christmas. But here too we must not lose hope that the day will come when the Israelis will have neighbors who will not want to destroy them. That day will come.

In addition to wars between countries, there are also wars within countries. In Estonia the Riigikogu went on Christmas vacation, but the Christmas peace is only formal. We must not hope that inter-party struggles will end, because with them democracy will also end, but we must hope that hatred and vulgarity will disappear from inter-party struggles. That day will come.

Christmas may be the time when the fight ends or at least stops. Because if we fight all the time, we might forget why we hate each other.

The start of the holidays offers an opportunity to calm down and reflect. For our part, we have put together a series of pages that should help you do this. Happy holidays to all readers, and never lose hope! No matter how long the night, there is always a day.
