Haapsalu does not carry snow out of the city as long as cars can pass each other | Estonia

The Haapsalu city government does not plan to transport snow accumulated along the streets during road maintenance out of the city until two cars can pass each other on major roads.

According to Haapsalu deputy mayor Innar Mäesalu, clearing the snow would involve huge expenses.

According to him, it is not possible to accurately estimate the amount of snow accumulated, but clearing the main roads can result in a total cost of between 30,000 and 40,000 euros.

Mäesalu expressed hope that the coming thaw could help alleviate the situation.

“Experience shows that you need to check the weather forecast one, maximum two days in advance. We don’t know if this thaw will last two, three, four or five days, but certainly with these days, at least here in Western Estonia and Haapsalu, they will definitely push it below the snow bank height. We have to see what it does next,” Mäesalu said.
