The daunting task of ‘widow’s work’
This week I was moved by an essay by a 92-year-old writer, Barbara Morris, who shared the emotional and logistical challenges of widowhood. She lost her husband, Ward, after 56 years of marriage.
Both the readers and I were struck by her description of “widow’s work” — the financial, insurance, medical and legal paperwork that those left behind must sift through after someone dies.
To help people prepare for these events — and hopefully minimize the strain of widow’s work — AARP has a number of useful guides. Here are four simple steps to take now so that life will be easier for you or your loved ones should one of you die:

The winner of the 33rd ‘Theatronto’ festival: the play “by Mihara Imber”
The 33rd Theatronto Festival closed yesterday (Thursday) at the Jaffa Theater. The festival, which was founded by the late Yaakov Agmon, and since his death has been managed by the actress Gila Almagor-Agmon, took place in Acre and Old Jaffa in front of full halls. A well-being and resilience program for healthcare workers will be developed in Antioquia
THE Pontifical Javerian University, In alliance with Johnson & Johnson, the call is open for medical personnel from Antioquia to participate in the program: Wellbeing and resilience for healthcare workers. This program focuses on helping professionals learn to manage the emotional and physical challenges they are exposed to every day in their work.
There are 500 places for this program which starts in Antioquia. The space is aimed at nurses, paramedics, nursing assistants, students of healthcare branches and healthcare personnel.
Antioquia is the department with the highest number of attacks against medical personnel on mission; of the 511 violent acts recorded in 2023, 78 occurred in this department.
“The general objective is to achieve a theoretical, experiential and experiential appropriation of what the resilience paradigm means in specific social contexts in order to generate well-being and emotional intelligence,” said Wilmar Roldán Solano, coordinator of the Continuing Education Pontificia Universidad Javeriana.
