Childbirth During the Pandemic: Addressing the Mental Health Crisis

A Crisis Made Worse by the Pandemic

Rates of postpartum depression in the US have increased significantly due to the COVID-19 pandemic. According to recent reports, one in three women now experiences postpartum depression. This mental health crisis among new mothers is a growing concern, with healthcare providers and experts striving to address the issue.

Recognizing the Symptoms

Maggie Doherty, a reporter with years of experience covering female health issues, delves into the personal stories of mothers who have tackled postpartum depression. Study Links Vaping to Lower Fertility in Women: Research Finds Hormone Levels Decreased in Vapers and Smokers

Vaping May Affect Fertility, Study Finds

A recent study suggests that women who are hoping to get pregnant should give up vaping, as it may have an impact on fertility. The study, which analyzed blood samples from 8,340 women, found that those who vaped or smoked tobacco had lower levels of anti-Müllerian hormone (AMH). AMH is a hormone that indicates the number of eggs a woman has left in her ovaries, thus affecting fertility prospects.

The research, conducted in the UK and based on anonymized data from 325,000 women, revealed that AMH levels were consistently lower in people who vaped across all age groups. Disturbingly, nearly a quarter of those trying to conceive admitted to regularly or occasionally vaping.

Dr. Helen O’Neill, the study’s author and a lecturer in reproductive and molecular genetics at University College London, emphasized the need for clear guidance: “no drinking, no vaping, no smoking, no drugs” for women planning to get pregnant. O’Neill urged women to quit vaping to avoid detrimentally affecting their chances of conceiving.

The study also shed light on other concerning lifestyle habits among women trying to get pregnant. The report showed that 7% of women admitted to tak
