Ilves: you are not up to par with the jumping technique | Double competition

Kristjan Ilves, who finished seventh in the MK stage in Ramsau, Austria on Saturday, returned to Estonia and told ERR before the competition’s four-week break that he plans to improve his jumping form during this period.

Kristjan Ilves has finished in the top ten five times out of seven races this season, with his best result so far being fourth place on the opening stage in Ruka. Although according to Ilves himself he has not yet found confidence in ski jumping, when it comes to skiing the story is the opposite.

“This season has actually started quite positively for me. I have however raised my level on the track, as these races have also shown, and if I fail somewhere, I come back into the game and am always fighting,” said Ilves to the ERR.

“Of course, taking the small risk of changing your jumping technique makes you feel it. In good times, I can do this jump, but I still see this uncertainty in myself. I’m not quite up to speed with this technique yet,” he added the competitor. “But again, what is good in some training here – before Ramsaud, I could train in Trondheim – then these jumps start to get closer to that. What is missing is simply that one or two good jumps are not enough. It is necessary perform ten or even hundreds of them, to start the competition knowing that you can perform the move from any position.”

In the general classification, Ilves occupies seventh place. Jarl Magnus Riiber has successfully started the hunt for his fifth overall victory in the MK series: the Norwegian has only missed first place three times so far.

“With Riiber it’s yeah… I never want to say I hope he gets lucky somewhere, but obviously it’s good for the pitch that Lamparter beat him and also Oftebro once,” Ilves said. “Of course, he is really in great shape on ski jumping. And we saw that in some moments he could compete freely with ski jumpers. It’s still a mystery: if everything goes well with him, this man is a little from another planet.”

Now there is a longer break from racing and the next stage will only take place on January 12th in Obersdorf. In this period Ilves above all wants to refine his jumping technique.

“I’m taking a little break in my head for a few days. From Beitostölen, a week before Ruka, we basically go from place to place, competing here,” Ilves opened up about the plans for the break from competition. .

“But overall it’s still the key to training. I can regain some of the strength that is lost by competing. Longer cross-country training to lay some groundwork for these next four weekends. And of course, that that The thing I feel the most is that I want to deal with the little nuances of ski jumping that would give those few extra meters. To be there in the competition, in the competition for the podium constantly,” said the biathlete.
