In the future, the bank card can be used as a bus card in Tartu Economia

AS Ridango will continue to manage the ticket sales and information systems of Tartu’s public transport network for the next five years. The new duration of the contract entails several changes: in the future the bank card can be used as a bus card and all the information panels at the stops will also be replaced.

Ridango has been a contractual partner of the city of Tartu for many years as the manager of the ticket sales and information systems of the public transport network. The new contract period begins on July 1 this year.

Tartu Deputy Mayor Raimond Tamm told the ERR that as these are quite complex systems, it would certainly be good for the city to have an experienced partner who has previously provided the service at a very good level.

“Today, for example, all devices on buses that connect to the ticketing system are also Ridango devices, which is why no one else can offer this information system service,” adds Tamm.

The new contract period also involves several changes to the University’s public transport system. Ridango, for example, is currently starting work to allow city line users to use their bank card as a personalized bus card starting from July 1 this year.

Ridango sales director Argo Verk explained that the rationale could be for a person to add a bank card to their account. “There is a secure environment where you can enter your bank card number. If you indicate this bank card on the bus, the system will automatically recognize that this card is linked to that person’s account and will then sell a ticket or if there is some kind of periodic pass or something, the right to drive is simply validated.”

Another more noticeable change concerns the digital information panels at bus stops, which show the movement of buses in real time. Verk said Ridango will replace all current boards during the summer months.

Today’s information boards on bus stops in the city of Tartu are quite old. “First of all, the new screens are new, which means they are also under warranty, have fewer failures and also have a very good and sharp display, so that all information lines are clearly visible in any weather conditions,” Verk said.

For the contract, won by Ridango, the company made an offer with a cost of almost 27 thousand euros per month. This amount also includes the implementation of the changes.
