In the third quarter, there were more than 12,000 vacancies

In the third quarter, the total number of vacancies and filled positions was more than 612,000, and most of them were in the manufacturing, trade and education sectors. Vacancies represent 1.96% of total jobs and are most numerous in the sectors of public administration and national defense (1,596), education (1,525) and wholesale and retail trade (1,418 ).

According to Liina Kuusiku, social statistics analyst at Statistics Estonia, 37% of all vacancies were in the public sector. The vacancy rate was highest in the public administration and defense, transport and warehousing, as well as health and social care sectors, while the lowest was recorded in the manufacturing sector.

Most vacancies were located in Harju County (81%), including Tallinn (72%), followed by Tartu County (6.6%) and Ida-Viru County (3.6%). The vacancy rate was the highest in Viljandi County and Harju County, and the lowest in Saare County and Hiium County.

In the third quarter, 57,405 people were hired and 62,793 left their jobs. The sum of those employed and those who left their jobs, which characterizes the movement of the workforce, or labor turnover, decreased by 8% compared to the third quarter of 2022.

“In terms of the number of people employed, the business sectors of education, wholesale and retail trade and manufacturing industry were in the lead. In terms of the number of people who left their jobs, the activities of general trade “wholesale and retail, manufacturing and education. At the initiative of the employer, 5,823 employees resigned, or 9% of all those who resigned,” Kuusik explained.
