Jasikevicius: The process of leaving Barcelona was extremely bad | basketball

Lithuanian Šarunas Jasikevicius, fired by Barcelona in July this year, has already found a new job, but told Turkish media on Thursday that parting ways with Barcelona was an extremely bad process.

Jasikevicius, who led the club to three EuroLeague finals and two Spanish championships in three seasons, was sacked by Barcelona this summer, but the 47-year-old former full-back took over as head coach of Fenerbahce in Istanbul in December.

The Lithuanian spoke to Turkish TV channel S Sport on Thursday and said he was happy with his time at Barcelona in the big picture. “I’m very sad that we didn’t manage to get to the Final Four, they were very painful defeats. But in general I would say that we brought Barcelona to where the club belongs: in the first two in the Euroleague, also in the national championship. We also played the endings everywhere,” Jasikevicius said.

The Lithuanian was also asked about his dismissal and decided not to dwell too much on the subject. “This process has been extremely bad and I won’t say anything else. In the end things got really bad,” the coach said.

Fenerbahce, who started the Euroleague season badly, have won six consecutive matches since Jasikevicius arrived, four of them in the Euroleague and two in the domestic Premier League. On Thursday evening, Istanbul was defeated by Anadolu Efes 89:84.

In the Euroleague seasonal standings, Fenerbahce is in fifth row with ten wins, Real Madrid continues to lead the championship with 16 wins and one defeat. Among these two are also Bologna Virtus, Barcellona and Panathinaikos.

Baskonia, home club of Maik-Kalev Kotsari and Sander Raieste, are in tenth or last place with nine wins and eight defeats playoffin kohl.
