Kadri Simson: Ratas’ departure marks the end of an era for the Center Party

“It is not very common for the long-time president of a political party to join another Estonian political party – this shows that things are not good in the center party,” Simson said.

“It is difficult for me to comment on what is happening within the party, because I have been away from active internal politics for work reasons for more than 4 years. But the latest developments and the feedback received from party members do not paint the picture of a a functioning board and management,” he noted.

“I am still convinced that Estonia needs a political party that defends the middle class, makes decisions based primarily on people and not on Excel tables, and that can unify and balance society. This is sorely lacking in Estonian politics,” Simson wrote.

According to him, there is a desperate need for a central party policy, but unfortunately there are fewer and fewer people capable of implementing it. “It cannot be assumed that current party leaders, who have only been in the party for a few years or who come from another party, are capable of understanding the values of the Central Party in the same way as people who have been members of the party for 20-30 years,” Simson said.
