Estonian women’s number one Kaia Kanepi (WTA 165th) will participate in the WTA Challenger-level tournament in Angers, France next week.
The last time Kanepi played in a tournament at the same level was eight weeks ago in Rouen, France, but he was eliminated in the first round. In Angers, her opponent in the opening round is Chloe Paquet from France, who is ranked 187th in the world rankings, Tennisnet.ee reports.
In case of victory, Kanepi will probably meet the French Alize Cornet (118th WTA). The Italian Elisabetta Cocciaretto (48th WTA) ranks first in Angers.
Another Challenger-level tournament will be held in Limoges the following week. If Kanepi participates and wins both tournaments, he will move into the top 100 in the world rankings, which would give him a chance to enter the main draw of the Australian Open. Otherwise the Estonian will have to start the first slam tournament of the year after qualifying.
