Kazakhstan removes Taliban from list of terrorist organizations | foreign country

A spokesperson for Kazakhstan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced Friday that the country will remove the Taliban from the list of terrorist organizations.

The Taliban returned to power in Afghanistan in 2021 when they entered Kabul, the capital of Afghanistan, without much resistance. The world was then captivated by footage of thousands of Afghans trying to leave the country immediately.

Since then, Kazakhstan has sent several official delegations to Kabul. In September, around 300 Afghan businessmen and Taliban representatives attended a business forum in Astana, Rferl reported.

Astana officially designated the Taliban a terrorist organization in 2005, but a spokesperson for Kazakhstan’s Foreign Ministry said the country continues to abide by United Nations resolutions on Afghanistan.
