Keiti Vilms’ abandoned dog is still looking for a home: he is definitely not the dog to put in a corner of the garden

Three-year-old Madonna was found wandering the streets of Kadriorg in December. “She actually has a very complicated past behind her, but she doesn’t let it bother her at all,” presented former Põltsamaa dog Vilmsi Anni Anete, communications manager at Varjupaikade MTÜ. “Luckily she Madonna still trusts people and is a really great dog.”

Madonna ended up in the shelter for the first time already in the spring of last year, when she too was wandering the streets. “There was a piece of chain hanging over him at the time – we can assume that he had to live his previous life as a chained dog,” recalls Anni, adding that the dog also had serious digestive problems at the time, for which he was immediately treated at the shelter .

“We adopted him and last August he went to a new home,” Anni continued, indicating that Vilms had taken the dog into his care in August 2023. After about four months, however, Madonna was once again found wandering the roads without a destination and without an owner.

While Madonna’s psyche is thankfully fine, the communications manager confirmed that abandonment can have a truly horrible effect on the dog. “We have also seen cases where dogs completely withdraw into themselves after being abandoned, not even daring to come out of their boxing corner and look at a person.”

Anni also shared that Madonna is looking for an owner or family where she can be a pet dog. “He really likes being outdoors, but he is definitely not the type of dog who sits in a corner of the garden, because for him the closeness and attention of a person is very important.” When she goes out, however, Madonna enjoys collecting tracks and sniffing around.
