Tenerife won the first quarter on the road 25:22, but Baskonia went into halftime with a 57:41 lead. Midway through the third quarter the home team’s lead briefly rose to 18 points, but Tenerife bounced back and took the lead at the start of the decisive quarter. In the last minutes, however, Baskonia showed a stronger hand and won the match 104:100.
In 29 minutes, Kotsar scored 11 points (5/5 doubles, 1/1 free throws), grabbed four rebounds and distributed four baskets. However, his +/- rating of 27 was by far the best. Impossible to reach Piazza Raieste.
Vanja Marinkovic was Baskonia’s most productive with 25 points. Chima Moneke and Markus Howard scored 22 points. On the Tenerife side, Jaime Fernandez shone with 27 points and eight assists.
Before Sunday, both teams had an equal record of six wins and one loss. However, thanks to the victory, Baskonia moved up to sixth place, while Tenerife dropped to eleventh position in the table.
Joonas Riismaa and Kaspar Treier also earned places in the Italian Premier League.
Riismaa’s home club, Brindisi, beat Vares 86:81 at home. The Estonian scored two points in six minutes (doubles 1/0, free throws 2/2). Nate Laszewski was the best in Brindisi with 22 points, Olivier Hanlan scored 23 points for Varese.
However, Treier and Sassari lost away to league leaders Brescia 65:110. The Estonian collected eight points (4/3 from two, 2/0 from three, 2/2 from free throws) and two rebounds in 19 minutes. On the Sassari side only Stephane Gombauld reached double figures with 17 points, Brescia’s top scorer was Amadeo Della Valle with 19 points.
Sassari (4-7) is 11th in the standings and Brindisi (2-9) is 16th or last.
