Last year in the municipality of Haapsalu 124 marriages were celebrated, the youngest married person was 20 years old and the oldest 70 years old.
According to Ethel Suurküla, civil status operations specialist of the Haapsalu municipal administration, she can make a comparison between the last six years. “In 2018 there were 89 couples who got married, but in 2020 there were already 130. There have never been fewer than a hundred couples,” she said. According to Suurküla, people are probably looking for security in their lives. “When there has been a lot of anxiety and uncertainty in the world about tomorrow in recent years, you can create a sense of security in your own home by giving certainty to the other party by signing a contract,” she said.
