Latvala revealed how many new Toyota Yaris Rally2s will start in Montes

In recent seasons, Škoda has dominated the Rally2 standings, but Toyota hopes to undermine that supremacy. This year the team built and tested the new Rally2 car, which has so far been tested in smaller rallies in Japan. However, the first serious image of the car can be seen at the stage of the World Championship in Monte Carlo.

Competition in the Rally2 class is intense, as cars from Škoda, Hyundai, Ford and Citroen have already competed there. Now Toyota is trying to attract many drivers to its cars. “Ideally we would be able to build five cars, but I don’t think they will start with five cars. In my opinion we will see three or four of our cars competing in Montes,” Latvala told rallit.fi.

Toyota will not compete with its official team in Rally2, but the bikes will be entrusted to private teams. So far the only certain thing is that the French Grand Master Bryan Bouffier will start in Monte Carlo with the new Yaris.

Rumor has it, there are other men planted in Toyotas. It also seems fairly certain that the car will be driven by Spaniard Jan Solans. The young Finnish talent Sami Pajari has also been actively testing the car in recent months.

Latvala declined to comment on the rumors. “We wanted to receive data and feedback from different managers. This gives us a good basis for development work,” said the Finn. “Now we’ve gotten to the point where the first race is upon us and we have to be ready for Monte. But the feedback so far is very positive and we must be satisfied.”

The deadline to register for the Monte Carlo Rally was last week, but it won’t be made public until January. The competition will start on January 25th.
