Lee Sun-kyun, actor of the Oscar-winning film “Parasite”, has died.

The BBC reports that the man was found unconscious in a car parked in Seoul’s largest park on December 27. It is not yet clear whether the actor took his own life, but initial police reports reveal that Lee left his home after writing a letter there.

In Parasite, Lee Sun-kyun played the patriarch of the wealthy Park family. At the 2020 Oscars the film won four awards. Lee Sun-kyun was married to actress Jeon Hye-jin and they have two children together.

The man had been under investigation by authorities since October. He was suspected of having used marijuana and ketamine in a Seoul bar with the bar’s hostess. The actor said that although he accepted what the landlady offered, he was not aware that it was a prohibited substance.

However, the venue’s landlady told authorities that Lee Sun-kyun repeatedly took drugs at his home, a claim the actor denied. The man requested a lie detector test through his lawyer. However, the results of various drug tests carried out by the man have been negative or with unclear results.

Lee Sun-kyun died in the midst of the investigation and was last interrogated for 19 hours on Saturday.

The agency representing the actor expressed its sorrow over Lee Sun-kyun’s death and asked to refrain from spreading false facts based on speculation.
