Lithuania’s competition authority has launched an investigation into Eesti Energia’s subsidiary

In mid-September, Enefit UAB took over the customer portfolio of EGTO energija due to extraordinary circumstances: EGTO energija could not continue to supply electricity, and if Enefit UAB had acted more slowly, all customers would have been transferred to the local general service, which according to CEO Vytenis Koryzna, it would not have been favorable for the customer.

Although the Lithuanian National Energy Regulatory Council was consulted prior to the transaction; it was agreed that an agreement to take over customer contracts would be concluded within one day and the local competition authority also gave permission to take over the customer portfolio, so the authority also started an investigation into a possible violation of competition law.

The investigation began because the parties to the agreement presented a settlement notification to the AGCM only after the operation had taken place: the operation was completed on 18 September, but authorization was requested two months later, on 23 November.
