LIVE RECORDING ⟩ Estonian Badminton Club Championships

The second edition of the Club Cup will be played as a team competition with the 100 point system. Men’s and women’s singles, men’s and women’s doubles and mixed doubles are played for twenty points each. The first team to score 100 points wins the game. The best clubs are explained in three strength groups.

According to the main organizer, Rainer Kaljumäe, competitions between clubs give badminton a new outlet, because in this way it is possible to better involve new members and fans and consolidate existing ones: «The particularity of the team competition could mean that the Players from the younger and older generations communicate and thus pass on a lot of knowledge. The system, playable up to 100 points, was chosen precisely for its fun aspect and the predictability of the game duration.» From the new year a similar scoring system will be used in the Junior World Cup team tournament.

45 teams from 16 Estonian badminton clubs will compete in Kääriku. In the strongest league, the championship, eight teams will compete for the cup. In the championship, among others, our best doubles players Kati-Kreet Marran and Helina Rüütel will compete, as well as the reigning Estonian men’s singles champion Karl Kert. Kert’s teammate is none other than Raul Must, who long ruled Estonian badminton, but who hung up his racket last year.

Last year the Club Cup was won by the representation of the Tartu Badminton Club Triiton, who are also strong favorites this year.

The competition is organized by Veeriku Badminton and the Estonian Badminton Association. The main sponsor of the Club Cup is City Clinics Hambaklinik. The sponsors are Vitaminwell, Kääriku Sportikeskus, Yonex and Dorpat Hotel.
