Hard training and saving go hand in hand: javelin thrower Magnus Kirt has secured himself financially since the beginning of his career as a top player.
In a candid conversation, Kirt talked about the impact of injuries on athletes’ incomes, athletes’ attitudes towards money and finding their place after their sporting careers end. Furthermore, Kirt revealed what thoughts were going through his head when he had to wait for medical attention while lying in Doha Stadium on the fateful night.
At the Rio Olympics you didn’t reach the final, you missed Tokyo due to injury and at the Paris Olympics you ended your career. I hope you don’t mind, but you and Olympia seem to be like Rolf Roosalu and Eurovision, that there’s always something going on. Is it the bitterest part of your career that you didn’t have Olympic success?
For sure. It’s not the kind of bitterness that makes me cry for long. In 2019, rhythm and body awareness emerged. We felt there was a great plan and model for the Olympic season to prepare and be competitive in Tokyo. It is a pity that it was not possible to try this model.
