The Estonian Olympic Committee has announced the official candidates for Male Athlete of the Year. The winners will be announced on Friday 29 December evening during the spectacular “Sports Year Stars 2023” awards ceremony.
The nominees for the 2023 Male Athlete of the Year are:
- Kristjan Ilves, double race
- Rasmus Mägi, athletics
- Karel Tilga, athletics
For these candidates, the telephone vote can be cast on Friday at 8 pm during the live broadcast of “Sports Year Stars 2023” on Kanal 2. The votes received are added to the votes received in the first round of voting.
Athletes of the Year have been selected in Estonia for 92 years. In 2022, decathlete Janek Æiglane was chosen as Male Athlete of the Year. Runner Aavo Pikkuus was chosen as Estonian Athlete of the Year for the most consecutive years: five times in the period 1974–1978.
The athlete, athlete, team and coach of the year are determined by adding the results of votes from the public, sports journalists and sports organizations. The young athlete of the year is chosen by journalists and organizations.
