Malõgina won in three sets, Nuudi lost Tennis

Estonian tennis player Elena Malõgina (346th WTA) reached the second round of the ITF tournament with a prize pool of $25,000 held in Sunderland, England. Another Estonian, Maileen Nuudi (WTA 478th), had to admit the superiority of her opponent in the opening round.

Malõgina, ranked sixth, defeated Japan’s Hikaru Sato (600th WTA), who qualified for the main tournament, 6:4, 2:6, 6:4 in a match that lasted two and a half hours. Next time she will face the American Robin Anderson (WTA 395th) or the Polish Urszula Radwanska (WTA 484th).

In addition to singles, Malõgina also participates in the doubles tournament, where her partner is Barbora Palicova from the Czech Republic. The Estonian-Czech pair placed fourth in the tournament.

Maileen Nuudi also fought a three-set battle, but came out the loser. She the Estonian lost to the Dutch Jasmijn Gimbrere (WTA 524), who had started the qualification, 6:3, 3:6, 3:6.

Among the Estonian men, Siim Troost and Daniil Glinka (ATP 494) will participate in the Sunderland tournament. Troost played in the doubles tournament, where together with Marcus Walters he lost in the opening round to the British pair Robert Cowley – David Quayle 3:6, 6:7.

By participating in the singles, Glinka entered directly into the main tournament and will face Frenchman Emilien Voisin (ATP 551) in the first round on Wednesday.
