CITIZEN MANIFESTO
On February 5, Constitution Day, López Obrador presented 20 initiatives, 18 of them constitutional, to “restore greatness” to the Magna Carta and protect it from “reactionaries” four months before the federal elections are held.
Among them, the electoral reform to replace the National Electoral Institute stands out (INE), the autonomous body that emerged to take control of the elections from the Government, and eliminate multi-member legislators (proportional representation), which would reduce the Chamber to 300 deputies from the current 500.

“Today, at this press conference, we are the people. I don’t know why they have to divide us,” he said.
Among the associations participating in the march, Sociedad Civil México stands out, related to the opposition front Fuerza y Corazón por México; Pro Liberty and Human Rights in America, or the Confederation of Civil Society Organizations.
The activist asked citizens and especially youth to attend the demonstration in memory of those who “left tears, sweat, blood and even lives in the streets” for democracy in Mexico, which does not “accept setbacks.”
On the other hand, the organizations asked not to attend with partisan emblems, since the different convening associations do not position themselves in favor of any candidacy.
In a joint statement, the organizations advocated that the electoral bodies operate with autonomy and independence and demanded that the elections be shielded “from money and the threat of organized crime.”
Hundreds of civil associations will carry out the‘March for our democracy’ this Sunday 18th of February against the reforms of the president Andrés Manuel López Obradorbecause the free vote is at risk“.
If the Government puts its hands in the elections, the vote is not free,” said Medina, who estimated the commitment that “at least seven out of 10 citizens” will vote in the elections on June 2.
In the opinion of the representative of Civil Society Mexico, Ana Lucía Medinathe constitutional reforms proposed by the president compromise the freedom to vote.
