Milrem will develop next-generation robotic systems together with the Ukrainians

Milrem Robotics and the Ukrainian Defense Industry (UDI), which brings together domestic defense industry companies, signed an agreement at the DFNC1 defense industry forum in Kiev to start cooperation on the creation of a new generation of systems robotic.

As a first step, strategic cooperation will be initiated to find out Ukraine’s needs and possible places of use of robotic systems. The goal is to increase the capabilities of the Ukrainian Armed Forces both during the ongoing war and after the war. The experience gained on the Ukrainian battlefield will then be used to further develop Milrem Robotics’ existing robotic and autonomous systems and develop new products to create manned and unmanned systems capabilities for the Ukrainian military.

“The war in Ukraine has clearly demonstrated that unmanned and robotic systems play an important role on the battlefield, which will only increase over time. The main purpose of our systems is to protect soldiers, but at the same time put pressure on forces of the aggressor. It is a great honor for us to collaborate with UDI to develop and produce robotic systems that will help Ukraine win this war,” said Kuldar Väärsi, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Milrem Robotics.

“The first international defense industry forum and contracts signed by the Ukrainian defense industry with Milrem Robotics and other global defense engineering companies have shown that we are on the same path as our Western partners,” said the Ukrainian Minister of Industries strategic Oleksandr Kamyshin.

“Ukraine is currently gaining unique experience in defense technology and we are ready to share this knowledge with our partners. Our goal is to deepen cooperation with leading international high-tech companies to jointly build the world’s arsenal free”, added Kamõšin.

Väärsi stressed that the Ukrainian defense industry will be involved in cooperation to integrate Ukrainian defense technology, such as weapons systems, electronic warfare and mine countermeasures equipment, with Milrem robotic vehicles. Additionally, the possibilities of manufacturing various ground vehicles and other Milrem Robotics products in Ukraine and how to cooperate in the field of engineering in the design of a wheeled unmanned combat vehicle will be examined.

Milrem Robotics has already delivered 15 THeMIS unmanned ground vehicles to Ukraine to support logistics, casualty evacuation and troop clearance.

Milrem Robotics is the European leader in the development and integration of robotics and autonomous systems with offices in Estonia, Finland, Sweden, the Netherlands and the United States. The company is known for its THeMIS and Multiscope UGVs, Type X robotic combat vehicle, and MIFIK autonomy suite. UDI, transformed into a joint stock company this summer, is a strategic producer of weapons and military equipment in Ukraine and brings together state defense companies with around 67,000 highly skilled workers.
