Kristen Michal provided the government with an overview of the phosphorite research conducted at Lääne-Virumaa. “It is estimated that 85 million car batteries could be produced from the amount of phosphorus in the expanded Aru-Lõuna area, which is why the value of this reserve is high,” she noted.

Estonian soil contains phosphorites, rare earth metals, vanadium and other key raw materials, the valorization of which could create a development area that would bring significant economic growth to Estonia, the climate minister told the government on Thursday Kristen Michal, the ongoing exploration of mineral resources, the focus of which is Lääne-Virumaa.

“The Estonian Geological Survey thoroughly studies the reserves we have. We have rare earth metals together with phosphorite as critical minerals for the future. At a depth of several hundred meters, some gold was found in the bedrock crystalline, but less so than other metals. Most likely Estonian bedrock has the same zones of mineralization as Finland-Sweden, but deeper. “However, the potential of Estonian fundamental order has not been sufficiently studied,” Michal said in a press release.
