Narva-Jõesuu plans to build a pier protecting the mouth of the Narva river Estonia in the near future

The city government of Narva-Jõesuu has received four million euros from the State Support Services Center for the construction of a protective pier at the mouth of the Narva River. It is expected that the missing money will be found by the State.

In the last ten years the mouth of the Narva River has lowered by at least one and a half meters, because the sea washes the sand-filled mouth and without a protective pier, naval traffic on the Narva River can stop.

The construction of the pier in Narva-Jõesuu began during the Soviet era, but was not finished then. Since the beginning of the century the city of Narva-Jõesuu has been looking for funds to deepen the river mouth and build a pier.

“Now we have four million on the table and we would need at least three more. We will continue negotiations to receive state support and start implementing the long-awaited pier project,” said Maksim Iljin, mayor of Narva. -Jõesuu.

“And I am very optimistic in this sense: already this year we will be able to get the missing part and if everything goes according to plan, probably by the end of this year we will also start the procurement of construction works,” Iljin said.
