PandaBuy, a Chinese online marketplace for counterfeit products, is in trouble. Chinese police launched an investigation after the brand’s owners filed a lawsuit against the company. A few days earlier, following a cyber attack, the data of over 1.3 million customers had been leaked.
The PandaBuy site is still up and running, but many features no longer work. On the PandaBuy channel of the chat platforms Discord and Reddit, the company confirms that this is due to a police investigation. Customers are worried and fear that the counterfeit Nikes or Airpods they ordered will no longer be delivered.
The owners of the brand are represented by the Rouse law firm. It is not known which brands these are. Second Get up Chinese police searched warehouses and headquarters in Hangzou. A merchant network linked to the site is also under scrutiny, Rouse said.

It’s unclear exactly how many users Pandabuy has. The app has already been downloaded more than a million times in Europe. React, a Dutch non-profit organization that works worldwide against brand counterfeiting, believes the platform is particularly popular among young people who buy counterfeit brand clothes there.
According to React this is due to social media marketing campaigns and the ease with which items can be ordered. “Before the advent of these websites, counterfeit products were mainly shipped from China in larger shipments. Then middlemen would resell the items. This step is now skipped. With just a few clicks you can easily order a pair of shoes,” he said a spokesperson.
