University of Mississippi Conduct Investigation
The University of Mississippi initiated a student conduct inquiry following incidents that were deemed to have “hostility and racist undertones” during a recent campus protest.
Footage from the demonstration, which took place last week, depicted intense clashes between pro-Palestinian demonstrators and a larger group of counterprotesters.
One video captured a confrontation between a Black woman and a group of white male counterprotesters, with one individual mimicking a monkey towards the woman while the crowd chanted “Lock her up!”
Chancellor Glenn Boyce addressed the offensive nature of the statements made during the protest in a communication to students and faculty, stating that an investigation into the conduct of a specific student has been launched.
He emphasized the university’s commitment to determining if further actions are necessary in response to the incident.
Boyce underscored the importance of respecting individuals regardless of their race or ethnicity, highlighting the need to uphold the core values of a civil and secure society.
