Mobilizing 1.7 million euros, the AMEAL project, deployed since February 2024, concerns the rehabilitation of 10 douars and villages in the province of Al Haouz. This program aims for economic and educational recovery in disaster-stricken regions through three sectors, education, training and employment.

Following the earthquake that occurred last September in the High Atlas, and which struck five provinces and a prefecture of Morocco, causing significant human and material losses, survivors were also faced with the loss of their means of subsistence.

This situation did not fail to exacerbate the socio-economic inequalities already present in four vulnerable regions due to their predominantly mountainous topography, namely Marrakech-Safi, Drâa-Tafilalet, Souss-Massa and Béni Mellal-Khénifra.

In order to contribute to the support structure in this post-seismic context, the “Better Future for Entrepreneurship and Learning” (AMEAL) project, supported by the European Institute for Cooperation and Development-Morocco ( IECD-Maroc)

The Importance of Bank of Thailand Independence: Dr. Suphawut Saichuea’s Insights on Economic Stability and Inflation Protection

Suphawut Saichuea

Dr. Supawut Saichuea is in favor of the independence of the National Bank. Inflation must therefore be adequately protected according to the framework agreed with the government. Confirming that the law does not contain the word “independence”, indicating that we must work together. It’s just that the law is written to make it difficult to remove the governor. He stated that everyone has the right to question the National Bank. Political causes affect everyone

May 6, 2024 Dr. Supawut Saichuea, Consultant of Kieranakinphat Financial Business Group Future President of the National Council for Economic and Social Development Gives an interview through the program “Inside Thailand Inside Thailand” on the MCOTHD 30 channel, regarding the issue of independence of Bank of Thailand (BoT), there are 2 main questions that need to be discussed: 1. Regarding monetary policy, whether it will be how much freedom and why? The second issue is the law. Bank of Thailand Law Regarding this issue of freedom.

As for the principles of monetary policy that say it should be independent. It’s because I’m afraid that normally politicians try to look at everything. Sometimes you have to look at the short term. Elections are approaching. Economic stimulus may need to be considered. To make the economy look good in the short term But if you do If inflation is high It will make inflation even higher. Therefore, having a general national bank or a worldwide central bank should have the freedom to implement policies to keep interest rates at an appropriate level. Let inflation not be high in the long run. This is the principle.

“Thailand’s problem this time is that inflation has been lower than normal for a long time. It’s not the same. and some countries like Japan got monetary policy wrong until it entered a state of continuous deflation for more than 20 years. The Japanese government had to fire the governor. and appointing a new governor and stimulated via QE, which took more than 6-7 years to bring the economy out of deflation.

Thailand is the same thing. In the pre-COVID-19 period our average inflation is only around 0.5%, below the Bank of Thailand’s target. And at that time the Ba
