For these candidates, the telephone vote can be cast on Friday at 8 pm during the live broadcast “Sports Year Stars 2023” on Kanal 2. The votes received are added to the votes received in the first round of voting.
Athletes of the Year have been chosen in Estonia for 92 years, the title of Female Athlete of the Year was first awarded in 1967 when it was won by athlete Laine Erik. In 2022, freestyle skier Kelly Sildaru was chosen as the female athlete of the year. Erika Salumäe has won the most Estonian athlete of the year titles, having been selected as Estonia’s best athlete nine times between 1983 and 1996.
